Aston Villa are reportedly still in the hunt for Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney, as Unai Emery eyes a reunion with another former player.

The Spaniard has already reconnected with Pau Torres, whom he coached at Villarreal, however more defensive reinforcements could still arrive at Villa Park this transfer window.

Valued by Football Transfers at €33.5m (£28.8m), the Gunners’ valuation of their full-back is a good representation of his worth, with the north Londoners speculated to want £30m for the Scotsman.

Villa’s reported interest in the 26-year-old was first raised back in June, with the club named as one of those interested in the star this week.

As reported by Newcastle World, both the Villans and Newcastle are keeping tabs on the Arsenal defender’s availability, with the player himself giving an interesting update on his future.

Speaking during pre-season activities, Tierney left talks of a potential move open by saying:

There’s nothing to speculate in terms of Emery’s admiration for the full-back, whom he signed from Celtic at the Emirates back in 2019.

The hope is that there is still time for the situation to change, allowing Brighton to finally accept a bid that suits all parties, but it looks increasingly as though Chelsea could have to look elsewhere for a high-quality midfield addition, which is far from ideal with the beginning of the new season edging closer all the time.

This year, they have witnessed something of a turnaround. After winning the ODI series in Sri Lanka, captain Graeme Cremer’s Zimbabwe side nearly caused an upset in the Colombo Test. Cremer believes the team that will take on West Indies in Bulawayo in the first Test from Saturday is even better than the one that pushed Sri Lanka hard.”I feel that we’ve probably got an even better team than we had in Sri Lanka,” Cremer said on the eve of the first Test. “We’ll take that confidence from Sri Lanka, but we know we can perform even better than that.”Zimbabwe have been buoyed further by the return of batsman Brendan Taylor and seamer Kyle Jarvis to international cricket, and Cremer’s confidence was echoed by his coach, Heath Streak. “They bring a lot in terms of experience, and we know what they’re capable of,” Streak said. “And we’re focusing on playing our own brand of cricket and backing ourselves, rather than looking at the reputations of the opposition. What's the latest Cheick Doucoure transfer news?

The Daily Mail reported last month that top-flight giants Liverpool are considering a swoop to sign the central midfielder before the end of the summer transfer window.

Jurgen Klopp is looking to bolster his midfield options and has identified the Mali international as a possible signing to replace the likes of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho, who have moved to Saudi Arabia in recent weeks.

However, the report claims that the Eagles value their outstanding battler at around £70m, although it remains to be seen whether the Reds would be willing to pay that much for his services.

Journalist Dean Jones has backed the club's decision to value the 23-year-old talent at such a price. He told Football FanCast:

“Doucoure’s price tag is obviously eye-popping, especially when you consider how much Mac Allister was signed for, but I can totally understand why that value has been set and we always have to remember that the Mac Allister fee was a bit of a one-off.

"In different circumstances, he too could have been priced at £70m, there’s not really any doubt about that. Palace are in a moment when the vultures are circling for Guehi, Olise and Doucoure and they have to fight to survive.

"That’s why they are hiking up prices and Liverpool have to expect and accept that.”

This shows that co-owner Steve Parish struck gold when he signed the ace for Patrick Vieira last summer in a £21m deal from Ligue 1 side RC Lens.

How good is Cheick Doucoure?

The terrific midfield warrior enjoyed an excellent debut campaign in the Premier League and has proven himself to be one of the club's top-performing players.

Doucoure produced consistently impressive displays in the middle of the park as he averaged a Sofascore rating of 6.97 across 34 appearances, which was the third-highest score of all outfielders on the team – only behind Eberechi Eze and Michael Olise.

The Palace star caught the eye with his outstanding defensive contributions in midfield. He led the club for both tackles (2.3) and interceptions (1.6) per game in the top-flight last season, which shows that the Mali international is able to constantly break up attacks from the opposition to regain possession for his side.

His form comes off the back of an equally impressive campaign with Lens in France. Doucoure averaged a Sofascore rating of 7.07 and made 4.2 tackles and interceptions combined per match across 34 league games, which shows that his performances for the Eagles are not a flash in the pan.

At the age of 23, the talented machine, who was once lauded as "combative" and "consistent" by talent scout Jacek Kulig, also has plenty of time left to develop and improve.

This means that any buying club would be signing a player who can make an immediate impact on the pitch at the top level whilst also having room to get even better in the future with the right coaching.

Therefore, Palace are well within their right to demand such a huge fee for his services. Selling him for £70m would represent a profit of roughly 233% on the initial £21m they spent to bring him in from Lens, which would represent terrific business by Parish and Vieira.

The Eagles struck gold by signing the superb maestro as they have been able to bring in a player who has made himself one of the team's best performers whilst also now having an asset that could land the club a significant payday either this summer or in a future window.

Manchester United have been strongly linked with Moroccan midfielder Sofyan Amrabat for a few months now. The latest update from transfer insider Dean Jones to GIVEMESPORT is that “they will keep pushing this to make it happen” as the start of the new Premier League season looms.

Sofyan Amrabat saga continues…

Amrabat first rose to mainstream prominence after his impressive performances for his country at the Qatar World Cup last year. Since then, he has attracted a lot of interest and Manchester United are at the front of that queue, if terms can be agreed, as per Fabrizio Romano when speaking to GIVEMESPORT.

Football is a world of revolving doors and so if the Fiorentina man is to arrive at Old Trafford, others will surely have to move on. Amongst the most likely are midfield duo Scott McTominay and Fred. Sky Sports are reporting that West Ham United are not only pursuing McTominay but also former United captain Harry Maguire as he continues to slip further down the pecking order.

There was previously interest from Newcastle United in the Scottish central midfielder whereas Fred would most likely leave England altogether. According to Metro, Turkish club Galatasaray is the most likely destination for the Brazilian where he would line up alongside a number of star names, including Wilfried Zaha, Lucas Torreira and Mauro Icardi.

Where else could Amrabat end up?

As Dean Jones alludes to, Man United’s pursuit of World Cup star Amrabat isn’t without its obstacles. Football Italia were reporting over a month ago that the 26-year-old had agreed personal terms with Spanish giants Atletico Madrid, only for that to go quiet due to Fiorentina demanding more money than Atleti were prepared to offer.

Jones’ wording suggests that Atletico are still interested in securing the services of Amrabat and there is a spot in the midfield at the Wanda Metropolitano following the departure of Geoffrey Kondogbia. The former Valencia man, along with fullback Renan Lodi, joined Marseille on a permanent deal in the region of £7 million.

Prior to this summer, it was Barcelona who were closest to snapping him up fresh off of the Qatar exploits of the World Cup star. Again, Fiorentina held strong though and so it could be the finances of the red half of Manchester which prevails after all.

Liverpool remain in negotiations with Southampton for midfielder Romeo Lavia, but to the indignation of the Anfield support, progress is moving at a snail's pace with the 2023/24 Premier League campaign just one week away.
