Burnley were among the leading candidates to secure promotion to the Premier League at the start of the season, and the early signs suggest that they may well be right in the mix. Parker's side are sixth in the table after four matches, and while points have been dropped twice, it would be a surprise if they weren't at least in and around the playoff positions throughout the campaign.

As for Leeds, they are one point and two places ahead of the Clarets in fourth, even though Daniel Farke has found himself under pressure at times. Saturday's clash at Elland Road may tell us a lot more about both teams, with an away win at a daunting ground acting as a real signal of intent by Burnley.

Parker has been handed an injury blow in the lead-up to the weekend action, however, with one important player set for a lengthy period on the sidelines.

Speaking ahead of the Leeds game, with quotes provided by The Burnley Express, Parker confirmed that Manuel Benson won't be available after picking up a "big injury", with "months" on the sidelines looking possible:

"Benny has got a bit of a big injury, so he won’t be around for a number of weeks, maybe months. That’s the big disappointment from the [Blackburn] game regarding Benny in that sense, having come on, but hopefully he can recover as quickly as possible but we won’t be seeing him for a little while. It’s his calf/his achilles. We’ve obviously scanned him and there’s obviously a problem there. He’s going to need time now to recover and get it right to re-boot him up and get him ready for when he’s fit."

Benson may not be one of the first names on Parker's team sheet, being limited to 10 minutes of Championship action so far this season, but losing him for such an extended period of time is far from ideal.

Squad depth is so vital in the Championship, given the relentless nature of the fixture schedule, so suddenly not having the 27-year-old to call upon for much of the remainder of the year isn't ideal.

Benson has done well in a Burnley shirt since arriving from Royal Antwerp in 2022, scoring 13 goals in 47 appearances, while Sam Parkin has hailed him as "electric" in the past, highlighting what a big miss he is going to be.

Semenyo and Cunha have shone in the Premier League this season, but Tottenham are also interested in signing a player who hasn’t been at his best, with a report from Caught Offside revealing they are now serious contenders to sign Manchester City’s Jack Grealish.

Man City are now willing to cash-in on Grealish this summer, and they will entertain offers of £38m – £43m, meaning they are set to make a huge £50m+ loss on the £100m they paid to sign him from Aston Villa in 2021.

Villa are among the rival suitors for their former player, while Newcastle United, Nottingham Forest and West Ham United are also named as potential suitors, so there is no shortage of interest from within the Premier League.

If West Ham’s disappointing start to the season continues, there is every reason reports of this nature could begin to hold weight behind them. The 24-year-old, on a reported £90,000-per-week, was rumoured to have an £85 million release clause in the summer – but it has now expired.

Wagner is an American financier who co-founded Knighthead Capital Management LLC in 2008 along with business partner Ara Cohen. He is also the New York-based firm’s co-CEO and manages about €9bn (£7.5bn) of assets.

A subsidiary of Knighthead Investment set up a company last year called Shelby Companies Limited, registered in Birmingham. Wagner is also listed as a director of that company.

Prior to co-founding Knighthead Capital Management, Wagner worked at Goldman Sachs, where he was a managing director.

Wagner has also previously been employed by investment banking affiliate Credit Suisse First Boston and accounting company Ernst & Young.

Philippe Clement’s future at Rangers isn’t promising

At the turn of the year, Rangers had already won the first trophy of the season, secured the top spot in their Europa League group, and were chasing Celtic down in the league.

While the wheels fell off towards the end of the campaign, there was plenty of credit in the bank. This was boosted further by selling Sam Lammers and Connor Goldson while releasing a few players upon the expiration of their contracts to free up the wage bill.

With just six wins in the top flight, trailing Celtic and Aberdeen by nine points, it is clear the club won’t be winning the title. The style of football has been dreadful, with several players underperforming massively.

If Clement is sacked, who can the board get to replace him?

Kjetil Knutsen would be a worthy replacement for Clement

Sooner or later, the rumour mill will start to circle regarding who will take the reins at Ibrox. Before Michael Beale was approached, Knutsen was linked with the managerial role in 2022, but nothing materialised.

The same name appeared yet again last year without success. Might it be third time lucky this time if the board decides to go down that route?

The Dane has enjoyed plenty of success at Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt, leading them to three league titles since 2018, with a fourth potentially on its way.

He has managed to club 296 times, winning 178 games in the process while averaging 2.02 points per game. An impressive spell, no doubt, but it is his attack-minded approach to games that could please the supporters.

Knutsen tends to use a 4-3-3 formation, which is different from what Clement is utilising. His style was once dubbed as “fantastic to watch” by journalist Connor McGilligan, while Bodo/Glimt captain Ulrik Saltnes had previously hailed the style of football as “kamikaze” which could certainly see the team score more goals.

Change is needed, and fast, if the Light Blues are to salvage anything from the 2024/25 campaign. Knutsen has worked wonders in Norway, and he could be a popular choice to take over at Ibrox when Clement departs.

It would be an interesting gamble, no doubt about that, but it could pay dividends, given his proven track record of winning league titles and his exciting style of play.
